5 Simple Ways to Boost Your Mood (that don't cost a thing)
Do you ever feel unmotivated or uninspired? Does each day feel like a continuation of the one before it? (it sure feels like that these days) If you’ve tried to alleviate some of the boredom, redundancy, and routine, you’re not alone. The truth is, with many of us spending more time at home, these feelings are more prevalent than ever. The good thing is that there are many things we can do from the comfort of home to boost our mood and here are my top 5 (P.S. they don’t cost a thing!)
Move Your Body.
It’s no shock that exercise is at the top of this list. Aside from the vast number of physical benefits we get from exercise, there are a ton of mental and emotional perks. The endorphins we get from exercise contribute to reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, increased happiness, more energy...and the list goes on! Whether you choose to do an intense at-home workout or simply take a walk, try to get moving daily. If you struggle with mindfulness (being in the moment), going for a walk is the perfect solution. It not only gets you moving; it also allows you to take in your surroundings and really appreciate all that nature has to offer.
Connect with Loved Ones.
Now, more than ever, human connection is vital for our mental health. While that may be challenging in our current climate, technology has made it so we stay connected, when we have to be apart. Next time you’re feeling lonely from the isolating effects of social distancing, pick up the phone and call the special people in your life. It’s a sure-fire way to lift your spirits and will do wonders for your soul!
Disconnect from Social Media.
While social media can be great for connecting with people, learning about beneficial products, and staying up-to-date on current trends, it also has a downside. If you find yourself comparing your life to the “perfect” lives you see on social media, it’s time for a break. If you begin to feel “less than” or inadequate in any way, it’s time for a break. If you find that you’re spending hours mindlessly scrolling, you guessed it, it’s time for a break. Disconnecting from social media for a day or a week will allow you to focus on yourself. It will force you to pay attention to the things that really matter and it will help you to accomplish tasks you’ve been putting off.
Complete a Project You’ve Been Putting Off.
Ah, the feeling of accomplishment. Clean out your closet, organize your pantry, shred that pile of documents. Whatever the task is that you’ve been putting off...get it done! Not much compares to the feeling of shortening your To-Do list. Next time you’re feeling “blah”, tackle that dreaded task and your mood will immediately be boosted. Trust me.
Feeling down? Give yourself a little TLC by practicing some lovely self-care rituals. A soothing face mask, perhaps? Maybe an at-home mani/pedi? The list is endless! There is only one YOU. Pamper yourself because you deserve it.
