How To Switch Up Your Skincare Routine For Spring
Winter is (finally) coming to an end, and while you’re busy packing away those puffy coats, it’s time to rethink your skincare routine, too. When seasons change, so should the products you’re putting on your skin. You don’t have to completely replace every product in your current skincare routine; it’s simply a matter of adjusting to the weather, environment, and lifestyle you’ll be living. So while you're at it, here are some helpful tips to make a smooth transition.
Switch to a lightweight moisturizer. Winter’s cold, dry air will be replaced with much more moisture and in many cases humidity, so the thick cream you’ve been slathering on can be swapped out for something more lightweight, with a thinner consistency. Water-based moisturizers or those with hyaluronic acid are a great option. Our skin is likely to produce more sweat and oil with the warmer weather, so lightweight moisturizers are sufficient to keep skin moisturized without feeling greasy.
Not a day without SPF. As we know, wearing SPF daily is a MUST, whether it’s cloudy or sunny. It’s the single most important skincare step to prevent sun-damaged, aging skin. If you’ve been slacking on using SPF during the cold winter months, it’s time to start again - ASAP. Make sure you’re using an SPF 30 or higher for maximum protection.
Add a Vitamin C Serum. If you don’t use a Vitamin C Serum year-round, Spring is definitely the time to start. Vitamin C is an anti-aging powerhouse that brightens the complexion and boosts collagen, but it is also a powerful antioxidant, meaning it protects the skin against sun damage and other free radicals.
Make sure your cleanser is up to par. If not removed thoroughly, makeup, oil production, sunscreen, and sweat build up on your skin when the temperatures rise and can contribute to acne and other skin conditions. Double-cleansing is a great option, as well as including a deep-cleanser, particularly one with enzymes or acids.
Swap oil-based serums for water-based serums. Make the switch from oil-based serums to water-based ones, as they are much more lightweight. Look for products with a watery or gel-like texture. The skin absorbs water-based serums more quickly, so it’s perfect for warmer spring weather.
